Adomas Morkūnas-Budrys is a Lithuanian conductor who recently debuted at the prestigious Salzburg Festival, serving as Assistant Conductor and Repetiteur for M. Weinberg’s The Idiot. Throughout the 2023/24 season, Adomas continued to make his mark, leading ensembles such as Kremerata Baltica, Oulu Sinfonia, Swiss Youth Symphony, and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, as well as working in such opera theatres as Teatro Real (on M. Weinberg's opera The Passenger) and Schleswig-Holschteinisches Landestheater (on C. Millöcker’s operetta Der arme Jonathan).
In recent years, Adomas has stood in front of distinguished orchestras, including the Finnish Radio Symphony, Helsinki Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, and Thessaloniki State Symphony. Being part of the musical team for G. F. Haas's opera Bluthaus, he has collaborated with major opera houses such as Bayerische Staatsoper and Opéra de Lyon. He has also had the privilege of receiving mentorship from renowned conductors like Paavo Järvi, Bernard Haitink, Jorma Panula, Nicolas Pasquet, and Larry Rachleff.
His musical journey has been shaped by his studies under Prof. Johannes Schlaefli at the Zürich University of the Arts and further expanded through an exchange program at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Currently, he is advancing his studies at the prestigious Sibelius Academy under the guidance of Prof. Sakari Oramo.
Adomas is an enthusiastic explorer of XX-XXI Eastern European music, focusing on discovering and promoting little-known masterpieces. Beyond conducting, Adomas is an accomplished pianist, arranger, and organizer of musical events. Since 2018, he has been the driving force behind the Future Symphony Competition, held three times. As Conductor of the Future Symphony Orchestra, Adomas has premiered 19 new orchestral compositions, demonstrating his commitment to fostering contemporary music.
Apart from music, Adomas is also an avid language learner, a passionate basketball player, a poker enthusiast, and a soon-to-be pilot.
